Kansas Wins NABF Deal

I was very excited to here that I would have a major biotech facility right in my own backyard. The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility is a Homeland Security initiative designed to build up our nations defenses against potential bio-terrorism. The facility will be built in Manhattan, Kansas and is a huge win for the state of Kansas. This project will provide a big boost to the economy in a tough economic time.

State officials worked extremely hard to seal the deal and below are some of the major factors that tipped the balance in favor of Kansas:

• Cheaper to build in Kansas than competing states.
• Kansas State focuses on livestock biotech and this is a better fit with the facility.
• Proximity to existing biohazard research.
• Strong public support.
• State provided incentives to sweeten the deal.
